STONECHAT- FERNDOWN COMMON- MAY 2010

The Stonechat is a distinctive looking bird particularly, the handsome male bird with a black head, white flashes on the neck with reddish orange breast plumage. It is a resident of heathland, common and downland areas where the male can be seen perched on the tops of gorse or bramble where it announces its presence with a harsh call. These shots were taken at various locations, the first shots provide some nice detail of the male bird who was again almost full frame. I was using a zoom lens, but unfortunately, the light could have been better I had the ISO set at 400
